Let's talk about pride month and its history from a safe and responsible context, including all the cultures that reside under one roof and are united by the same traveling soul.
What is the LGBTQIA+ Pride month?
PRIDE is celebrated in June in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. This day is known as the tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the U.S. What started as a one-day celebration turned into a whole month of parades, parties, concerts, workshops, and memorials to remember those lost to hate crimes, HIV/AIDS, and in the riots.
What does LGBTQIA+ mean?
This acronym is a way to create visibility for everyone in the community. It stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and + to include other groups. You can find more information about sexual diversity at: https://lgbtqia.ucdavis.edu/educated/glossary.
